Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Junior Rosemarie Neiva and freshman Sara McVey combined for nine points as the Stevenson field hockey team posted its second-straight victory, 5-0, versus Immaculata Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (2-6), who are averaging 18.4 shots a game, took 20 in the first half and 37 in the game while holding Immaculata to zero. This is the eighth time in the program's history that the Mustangs have held their opponents without a shot with the last coming on Oct. 1, 2014.
It was also the fifth shutout for the Mustangs in their last 11 wins dating back to last season.
Stevenson grabbed the early lead when Neiva took the ball up the right side of the field and found McVey in front of the goal for a one-timer. Just 1:16 later Neiva had another breakaway and fired it on goal to double the Mustangs lead.
Neiva scored her second goal of the game in the 13th minute to increase Stevenson's lead to three. It is Neiva's second multi-goal game of the season and fourth in her career. Meanwhile, freshman Alexis Young picked up her first career assist on the goal.
Just 3:31 into the second half, McVey joined Neiva with two goals after shooting the ball off a scramble in front of the net. Junior Holli Eppley rounded out the scoring at 48:24 on a long shot from just inside the top of the circle.
The five goals were a season-high for the Mustangs who have totaled at least five goals in six games dating back to last season. Meanwhile, Immaculata (0-8) was kept off the score sheet as the Mighty Macs finished with zero penalty corners in addition to zero shots.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 23 when the Mustangs travel to Albright in the MAC Commonwealth opener beginning at 12:00 p.m.
