Mustangs Drop Overtime Heartbreaker to Former CAC-Rival Salisbury

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson women's soccer team battled former CAC-rival Salisbury to overtime but the Mutangs dropped a 1-0 decision following an own goal with three minutes remaining in the period Tuesday evening at Mustang Stadium.

The Mustangs (3-5) went to overtime for the third time this season and second-straight game. It was the first loss for Stevenson in overtime after winning its previous two overtime games, 3-2.

In the 96th minute, the Sea Gulls (6-2) were awarded their sixth corner kick of the game which Samantha Beck sent to the near corner. Jayne Pinsky was able to get a head on the ball sending it acorss the goaline before it was deflected off the head of a Stevenson defender.

Despite being outshot, 16-8, Stevenson had its chances to score with its best opportunity coming in the opening mintes of the game. Sophomore Kellen Wittman was taken down in the box in the fourth minute of the game but her penalty kick went wide.

With time winding down in regulation, Salisbury nearly scored with two seconds remaining as Pinsky's header off a Beck corner kick was grabbed out of the air on the goal line by sophomore Tiffany McKee.

McKee finished with seven saves and has totaled 42 in eight games this season after finishing with 45 saves in 17 games a season ago.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 26 when the Mustangs travel to face No. 22 Haverford in a non-conference contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
