Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Stevenson women's soccer team scored two early goals but Catholic scored three unanswered goals for a 3-2 win over the visiting Mustangs Wednesday afternoon at CUA Soccer Field.
The Mustangs (2-4) have dropped four-straight one-goal games and are 3-6 in one-goal games dating back to last season.
Just 2:20 into the game, sophomore Kellen Wittman found classmate Lauren Spivey to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead. It was the first goal this season for Spivey who totaled two in her rookie season.
Wittman, who led the Mustangs with nine goals a season ago, scored her third of the year 4:23 later to give Stevenson a two-goal advantage. It marked the third time in her career Wittman has totaled a goal and an assist.
The Cardinals (5-1) knotted the game at 2-2 in the first half with goals 6:07 apart. Kristen Wosleger found Andrea Jablonskyj in the 14th minute before Wosleger scored a goal of her own.
Catholic would outshoot the Mustangs 4-3 over the remainder of the half but it was Stevenson who recorded two shots on goal but Lexi Halperin totaled two of her seven saves. The Stevenson defense blocked two Cardinal shots during that time.
Both teams managed just three shots in the second half, including one by Jillian Sudo in the 63rd minute for the game winner. The Cardinals have allowed just one second half goal in six games this season.
Catholic held a slight statistical edge, outshooting the Mustangs 16-13 while holding a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Stevenson returns to action on Friday, September 18 when the Mustangs face former CAC-rival Frostburg State beginning at 7:00 p.m.
