Box Score 2 STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson baseball senior Tom Connell earned his first career win in game one while senior Troy Miller totaled three hits as the Mustangs rallied from three-run, first inning deficits in both games en route to a doubleheader sweep of Albright Saturday at Park Field on Senior Day.
With the sweep, Stevenson (18-17-2, 13-8 MAC) finished in a tie for second place in the conference standings with Messiah, but earned the third-seed in the 2015 Commonwealth Conference Baseball Championship since the Falcons won two out of three against the Mustangs this season.
The Lions (12-18-1, 8-13 MAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first in game one before a sacrifice fly by junior Nick Peifer scored junior Ian Eberly to put Stevenson on the board.
Albright added two more runs in the top of the third on a two-run single by Zac Okonski to extend its lead to 5-1 before Eberly scored on another sac fly, this time from junior Craig Joseph in the bottom of the inning.
Trailing by three, the Mustangs took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, including two on the first career home run for junior Matt Myers that pulled them within one. Miller followed with a two-run single to left center to score Eberly and junior Kevin Wu to give Stevenson a 6-5 lead.
The Mustangs got an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Peifer scored on a wild pitch before junior Reid Foxwell picked up his second save of the season after totaling two scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.
Connell earned his first career win in nine appearances this season after scattering three hits over 2.2 innings of work in relief of junior Ryan Martin.
Miller finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs while senior Brody Tennant was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Just like the opener, Stevenson fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first of game two after freshman Daniel Williams was tagged for three runs on four hits.
However, those were the only three runs Williams allowed as he totaled his second complete game of the season, holding the Lions scoreless and allowing just two hits while striking out five over the final six innings.
Meanwhile, Albright's leader in ERA this season, Jared Neiheiser, managed to hold the Mustangs to just one unearned run on four hits through 5.0 innings as the Lions led 3-1 going into the bottom of the sixth.
After retiring the first two batters, Neiheiser allowed back-to-back singles to Miller and Joseph before a two-out, two-run single to right by Peifer tied the game at 3-3. Tennant then tripled to right center to score Peifer and give Stevenson a 4-3 lead which marked the end of the day for Peifer.
Then, during the first at-bat for relief pitcher Philip Angelastro, the Mustangs added an insurance run when Tennant stole home to put them in front 5-3.
Williams then retired the first three batters in the top of the seventh on just nine pitches to earn his team-leading third win of the season, tying him with junior Alec Romanowski.
Peifer finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Tennant went 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice. Miller was also 1-for-3, extending his on-base streak to 16 games. During that time, he has totaled 23 hits and seven walks.
Stevenson looks for its sixth-straight win at home when it welcomes former Capital Athletic Conference rival York (Pa.) to Park Field. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
