Box Score STEVENSON, Md. - An RBI-single by Stevenson baseball senior Frederick Casper in the bottom of the ninth scored freshman Matt Alcantara, giving the Mustangs a 5-4 walk-off win over Penn State Harrisburg in a non-conference contest Wednesday at Park Field.
Stevenson (16-16-2) won its third-straight at home to improve its record to 9-5 while evening its record at .500 with four games remaining. The win also avenges a 12-6 loss at Penn State Harrisburg on April 16.
On the eighth pitch of the at-bat, Casper lined a 3-2 pitch from Troy Taber into left to score Alcantara after he reached on an error, was sacrificed to second by junior Kevin Wu and moved to third on a wild pitch.
It was the lone hit of the game for the Casper who finished 1-for-4 with his fourth RBI of the season. He is hitting .308 this season and has totaled five runs, four hits and three RBIs over his last five starts.
Alcantara, who was making just his third start of the season and second at third base, also finished 1-for-4 with an RBI. His RBI-single with two outs in the sixth gave the Mustangs a 4-3 lead before the Nittany Lions tied the game with an unearned run in the ninth.
The loss snapped a six-game win streak for Penn State Harrisburg (11-21) who left 13 runners on base and went 4-for-15 with runners in scoring position. The Nittany Lions also committed two errors which led to two unearned runs, including the game-winner.
Senior Troy Miller extended his hitting streak to nine games by going 2-for-4 with a double. During his nine-game hitting streak, he is hitting .436 with five extra-base hits and 19 RBIs.
Miller and junior Craig Joseph combined for five of the Mustangs' nine hits as Joseph was 3-for-4 with a double. Joseph has a hit in 10 of his last 12 games with nine extra-base hits, including six doubles.
Junior Ian Eberly also had a hit to raise his average to .359 this season.
On the mound, freshman Darrin Hawkins picked up his first career win in his third career appearance.
Tom Denniston and Bryan Balshy each went 3-for-5 for Penn State Harrisburg while Taber fell to 1-1 in four appearances this season.
Stevenson begins a three-game Commonwealth Conference series at Albright on Friday before hosting the Lions for a doubleheader at Park Field Saturday on Senior Day.
