Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md.- Junior goalkeeper Kim Hahr totaled a career-high nine saves and classmate Rosemarie Neiva added a pair of goals as the Stevenson field hockey team defeated Lebanon Valley 2-1 in its MAC Commonwealth regular season finale.
With the win, the Mustangs (11-8, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth) secured the second place spot in the MAC Commonwealth tournament behind top-seeded Messiah.
In the first half, the Dutchmen (9-7, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth) lead Stevenson in shots 8-6, while the Mustangs held a 3-2 advantage in penalty corners. Hahr totaled five saves in the half as the teams entered halftime in a 0-0 tie.
Just under nine minutes into the second half, Stevenson senior Meg Gill crossed the ball to Neiva, who fired a shot from the left side to put the hosts up 1-0. Only 5:09 later, Neiva scored her second goal of the night and 16th of the season from the same spot after making a one-hand diving shot off of a pass from freshman Kali Martin. Martin has totaled a point in three of her last four games.
With 2:16 left in the contest, the Dutchmen were awarded a penalty stroke for a defensive foul behind the goalie, and Lebanon Valley's Kristen Garman was able to connect and cut the score to 2-1. The Dutchmen attempted two more penalty corners and a shot, but the Mustang defense and another save by Hahr closed out the game.
Lebanon Valley edged Stevenson 17-16 in shots and 6-5 in penalty corners. Dutchmen goalie Victoria ByDeLey totaled seven saves.
Stevenson returns to action Wednesday, November 4th when they host a rematch versus third-seed Lebanon Valley in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals. Game time will be announced in the near future.
