Box Score READING, Pa. – Highlighted by five points from junior Alexis Siejack and the first-career goal by freshman Gabriela Young, the Stevenson women's soccer team posted a 5-0 victory over MAC Commonwealth opponent Alvernia Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs (8-9, 5-1 MAC Commonwealth) are currently in sole possession of second place in the conference and one game behind No. 1 Messiah. Stevenson and the Falcons will face each other this Wednesday, October 28.
The five goals was a season-high for the team while marking the fourth shutout of the year and third in the conference. It was also the 10th shutout in conference play over the last two seasons.
Stevenson got on the board in the 19th minute as sophomore Kellen Wittman found classmate Lauren Spivey in the middle for the shot. It is the third goal of the year for Spivey who totaled two last season. Meanwhile, it was the 43rd career point for Wittman who is six shy of cracking the top-10.
Just over 10 minutes later, senior Jordan Porretto sent a short pass to Siejack who was positioned just outside of the six-yard box and fired home her second goal of the year.
Siejack then dished out an assist to senior Allie Ondrejcak who dribbled past the goalie to score her second of the year just 3:38 before the half to increase Stevenson's lead to three.
The second goal by Siejack came in the 67th minute as she beat the keeper low to the far corner. It is her fifth multi-goal game in her career.
Young rounded out the scoring on a breakaway in the 86th minute scoring from nearly 40 yards out.
The Mustangs outshot the Crusaders (4-12-1, 3-3 MAC Commonwealth), 23-9, while also holding a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The game between Stevenson and Messiah is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Last season the teams tied twice, while the Mustangs claimed the conference championship on penalty kicks.
