Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Despite outshooting Albright 13-3, the Stevenson women's soccer team had its 15-game conference unbeaten streak snapped as the Mustangs fell 1-0 versus the Lions in a MAC Commonwealth contest Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (7-9, 4-1 MAC Commonwealth) dropped just their fifth conference game in 32 tries since joining the league in 2012, and first since October 15, 2013. It was also only the second conference loss at home in 16 games and second all-time loss versus the Lions in seven tries.
With the loss, Stevenson falls into a two-way tie with Lebanon Valley as both teams are one game behind No. 1 Messiah. Lebanon Valley's lone conference loss came against the top-ranked Falcons.
Stevenson had three-straight corner kicks in a minute span early in the game but could get only one shot off, a header by sophomore Morgan Cary that deflected off a defender on the far post.
Neither team created many scoring opportunities in the opening half as the Mustangs outshot the Lions, 6-2.
Sophomore Julia Webb nearly scored twice in a minute span as her first shot from the top of the 18-yard box sailed high before firing a shot that went just wide.
Rebecca Mallon put Albright (8-6-2, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth) on the board in the 62nd minute as her free kick from 26 yards out went just under the crossbar out of the reach of sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany McKee. It was Stevenson's first deficit in conference play since Oct. 15, 2014 versus top-ranked Messiah.
In the 85th minute, the Mustangs were awarded a free kick from 25 yards out but Webb's shot went just inches over the crossbar. The team outshot the Lions, 5-0 following the goal, but just one was on frame.
The Mustangs held a slight 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 24 when the Mustangs travel to face Alvernia in a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
