Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Highlighted by a goal by senior Thomas Taylor, the Stevenson men's soccer team snapped its five-game losing streak with a 1-0 MAC Commonwealth victory over Widener Saturday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The goal in the 68th minute, snapped the Mustangs (4-8-1, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) scoring drought at 674:25. The win also snapped a five-game conference losing streak dating back to last season.
Stevenson had a great scoring opportunity in the 59th minute following a corner kick by freshman Iliyas Mirza, the Mustangs fourth corner kick of the game. Senior Reid Hawkins was left alone on the back post but his header was snatched by a diving David Sousa.
Following the goal by Taylor, the first of the season and second of his career, the Mustangs played a defensive game as the Pride (5-7-1, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) outshot Stevenson 4-0 the rest of the way.
Kyle Lynch nearly knotted at 1-1 in the final minute of play but senior Ryan Callinan made a diving effort to record his sixth save of the game.
Widener outshot the Mustangs 11-9 and held an 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, October 14 when the Mustangs travel to Hood for a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 3:30 p.m.
