Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Sydney Teng scored twice and Alyssa Morgan tallied a goal and an assist as No. 18 Johns Hopkins defeated the Stevenson women's soccer team 5-0 Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (2-2-1) dropped their first game at home in eight tries dating back to last season. After scoring 13 goals in their opening two games, Stevenson has scored just two in its last three games.
Sophomore Jordan Porretto had the first opportunity of the game when her shot from 30 yards out just sailed overtop of the crossbar. The Blue Jays (4-2) then responded less than a minute later down the other end when Bailey Monaco had an open shot from the top of the box but freshman Tiffany McKee was there for the stop.
In the 19th minute, junior Allie Ondrejcak played a ball perfectly into the box for senior Meaghan Williams to run onto but it traveled a little too far as Sarah Benett was able to fall on top of it.
Johns Hopkins got on the board in the 26th minute when Hannah Kronick had a touch pass from the top of the box to Teng who had a step on her defender down the left side. Teng's shot beat the keeper low to the far right post.
McKee reached up to knock down a shot just under the crossbar, but Meg Van De Loo was alone to head in the rebound to increase the Blue Jays lead to two in the 30th minute.
Maryalice McKenna scored her second goal of the season as a cross by Alyssa Morgan found McKenna on the back post as she headed it in for Johns Hopkins third goal of the game in the 49th minute. Later in the half, Morgan tallied her first goal of the year after her shot from 25 yards floated over the top of freshman Bre Springer.
Teng rounded out the scoring for the Blue Jays with her second goal of the game as she beat the keeper one-on-one eight yards out.
The game featured 22 fouls, including 16 in the second half. After the Mustangs totaled three of the first four shots of the game, the Blue Jays outshot the Mustangs 16-4 the rest of the way, including 9-2 in the second half.
McKee finished with three saves while her counterpart Benett totaled four.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 13 when the Mustangs travel to No. 12 Misericordia beginning at 1:00 p.m.
