Box Score YORK, Pa. – Behind the efforts of seven different pitchers, the Stevenson baseball team concluded their 2014 season with a 7-6 road loss against former CAC rival York College (Pa.).
Sophomore Kevin Wu got Stevenson (14-26) on the board in the fourth with his fifth homer of the season, a solo shot to left field. In the top of the fifth inning, the Mustangs took a 4-3 lead after scoring three runs on an RBI double from sophomore Ian Eberly and an RBI ground out from junior Troy Miller. Eberly was brought home later in the inning on a wild pitch.
York (28-13) tied the game at 4-4 the next inning and scored three runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh to bring the score to 7-4. The Spartans were able to hold off the Mustangs' rally in the top of the eighth when senior Scott Merkel brought home two with a single through the left side.
Stevenson used seven different pitchers in the game, with sophomore Alec Romanowski getting the start and a no decision after hurling five innings and surrendering four earned runs on seven hits. Senior Greg Myers pitched in relief for only the second time in his career, throwing 1.1 innings and collecting a strikeout.
Offensively, Wu lead the Mustangs with a 2-for-4 effort, an RBI and two runs scored. All but one starter for Stevenson collected at least one hit and four different players had RBIs.
After going 25-18 just one year ago with a loss in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Conference tournament, the Mustangs, who graduate six seniors this season, failed to make the tournament this year with an 8-13 conference record.
