Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Stevenson baseball team dropped its fourth game in a row today, tying the team's longest losing streak this season, falling 9-3 at Bridgewater College (Va.).
Junior Brandon Franke started on the mound for the Mustangs, turning in his best performance of the season. Franke threw 5.2 innings and struck out two, giving up only two earned runs on nine hits and one walk.
Stevenson (8-13) fell behind in the bottom of the third, surrendering a pair of runs on a Bridgewater (20-7) sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Justin Petock.
The Mustangs tied the game at two apiece in the top of the fifth when freshman Joe Bentz scored senior Tom Goulian with an RBI groundout. A fielding error from the Eagles allowed the second run to score on a ball put in play by sophomore Matt Myers. Sophomore Ian Eberly added an RBI single in the sixth, giving Stevenson a one-run advantage.
Cavin Clyde singled home a run for the Eagles to even the score in the bottom of the sixth, before Bridgewater erupted for six runs in the seventh inning to take a commanding 9-3 advantage, led by a three-run homer from Nick Fulk. The Mustangs committed two errors in the inning, resulting in five unearned runs to score.
Eberly and senior Scott Merkel led the offense for Stevenson, going a combined 4-for-8 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Nick Peifer suffered his first loss on the mound after one inning of work, responsible for five runs but only one earned.
Stevenson returns home Tuesday for a nonconference contest with Mount Aloysius starting at 3:30 p.m.
