CHESTER, Pa. – Despite solid pitching performances in both games, with senior Greg Myers and sophomore Alec Romanowski, the Stevenson baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Saturday against Commonwealth opponent Widener, losing game one 4-3 and game two 6-1. Myers and Romanowski each went the distance for the Mustangs, surrendering a single earned run between them on the day.
Stevenson (8-12, 3-9) scored first in game one on an RBI double from sophomore Matt Myers in the top of the third, but Widener (13-9, 7-4) answered with four unearned runs in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of two errors by senior Ben Hallam and a bases loaded walk. Myers finished 2-for-3 at the plate in game one.
Stevenson made it a one-run game in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by junior Bret Schilling and a sacrifice fly from freshman Kevin Kopas, but could not get the tying run across the plate.
Myers took the loss on the mound for the Mustangs, falling to 2-3 despite giving up no earned runs and allowing only two hits. With five strikeouts and four walks in his six innings of work, Myers now holds a 1.75 ERA and 1.08 WHIP through 36.0 innings this season.
In game two, the Pride scored four unearned runs in the first inning for the second time in three meetings this season. Stevenson's lone run came in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from senior Tom Goulian.
Romanowski suffered his third loss of the year for the Mustangs, falling to 3-3 after allowing an earned run on six hits.
Kopas finished the day 2-for-2 with an RBI, walk, and run scored, while sophomore Ian Eberly was 2-for-4.
Stevenson travels to Bridgewater (Va.) tomorrow for a single, nonconference contest starting at 2 p.m.
