READING, Pa. – The Stevenson baseball team split their doubleheader with Albright College on Saturday, led by an 11-inning standout performance from sophomore Alec Romanowski in a 3-2 victory in game one, followed by a 2-0 loss in game two.
Runs were hard to come by for both teams in game one, with Stevenson (13-23, 8-13 MAC) trailing 2-1 until junior Bret Schilling tied the game with an RBI groundout in the top of the seventh inning. Both teams were held scoreless until sophomore Ian Eberly drove in the game-winning run in the top of the 11th inning on an RBI double to center field.
Romanowski earned his team-best sixth win of the season for the Mustangs, improving his record to 6-3 after throwing his fourth complete game. He surrendered one earned run, six hits and five strikeouts while throwing 126 pitches over 11 innings.
Sophomore Kevin Wu finished the game 1-for-4 with an RBI while junior Troy Miller and Eberly both finished with two-hit games.
Albright (13-15-1, 10-11 MAC) scored all the runs they would need in game two on Gabe Santone's RBI groundout and Evan High's RBI single in the first inning. Daniel Louviaux earned his fourth win of the season for the Lions after blanking the Mustangs over seven innings and striking out six.
On the mound, Stevenson sophomore Nick Peifer earned his first starting assignment of the season, earning his second loss despite giving up only one earned run through four innings of work. Freshman Jordan Szarko threw the final two innings, giving up no runs on two hits.
Freshman Matt Marinelli turned in his first multi-hit game of his career in game two, finishing 2-for-3, while Miller and Eberly added a hit each.
The Mustangs return home on Sunday for a single nine-inning nonconference contest with former CAC rival Salisbury University. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
