Box Score 2 STEVENSON, Md. – The Stevenson baseball team was swept by the visiting second place Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen 5-0 and 9-4 in their series opening doubleheader at Park Field on Monday despite a complete game performance on the mound from senior Greg Myers.
The first runs of game one came in the top of the third inning when Dutchmen catcher Jordan Higgins hit a two-RBI single off of Myers. Higgins drove in two more in the top of the fifth with a double to left field, later scoring on a wild pitch.
The Mustangs threatened in the bottom of the sixth when senior Scott Merkel stepped up to the plate with a runner on first base. Merkel doubled to left field, but senior Ben Hallam was thrown out at home after a successful relay from the Lebanon Valley shortstop.
Myers suffered his second loss of the year for Stevenson, falling to 2-2. He worked all seven innings, giving up three earned runs and four hits while striking out six. Merkel and Hallam went a combined 4-for-6 in game one.
The Mustangs totaled 10 hits in game two, led by sophomore Matt Myers, who was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Myers and sophomore Kevin Wu lead off the bottom of the first with consecutive hits, with Myers scoring on an RBI ground out by junior Troy Miller.
After trailing 2-1, the Mustangs added two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Senior Tom Goulian scored on a Dutchmen wild pitch and a successful double steal scored sophomore Ian Eberly.
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Stevenson (7-9, 2-6) loaded the bases after two hits and a walk but failed to score a run.
Myers capped off the scoring for the Mustangs with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, scoring freshman pinch runner Zach Knotts.
Lebanon Valley (15-6, 6-2) added six runs in the final three frames and handed sophomore Alec Romanowski his second loss of the year. Romanowski, now 3-2, pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four earned runs and nine hits while striking out four.
Myers, Wu, and Miller combined for seven hits in game two, accounting for seven of Stevenson's 10 hits.
The Mustangs travel to Lebanon Valley tomorrow for the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
