Box Score STEVENSON, Md. – The Stevenson baseball team fell to the visiting Washington College Shoremen Thursday in a nine-inning non-conference game at Park Field by the score of 10-2. The opposing Shoremen quieted the Mustangs' bats, who recorded only four hits and scored no runs in the final six frames.
Stevenson (7-7) scored first in the bottom of the first inning when senior Scott Merkel singled home junior Troy Miller. Merkel added his team-leading 19th RBI in the bottom of the third, singling home Miller for the second time.
The game was knotted at 2-2 until the top of the seventh inning when Washington third baseman Garrett Richardello hit a two RBI single off of Stevenson starter sophomore Arik Fenstermacher, giving the Shoremen a two-run lead. Washington (9-7) put up six more runs in the eighth inning, starting with a leadoff homer from Scott Matthews, making the game out of reach for the Mustangs.
Fenstermacher suffered his first loss of the year for the Mustangs after making his first career start, throwing 6.1 innings and striking out five batters while giving up three earned runs. Sophomore Jake Kempinski threw a clean 1.1 innings in relief, striking out two.
