Box Score 1 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Stevenson softball team scored 22 runs while freshman Sara Welch tied the school record with seven RBIs as the Mustangs picked up two victories over Rhode Island College and Franciscan Thursday at the National Training Center in Florida.
The Mustangs (5-4) defeated the Anchormen 3-1 in game one before the bats came alive in game two against the Barons for a 22-0 five-inning victory.
In game one, Rhode Island College got on the board first inning run before sophomore Tiffany Kahl singled to center field scoring sophomore Kristen Mueller from second.
Mueller scored a second run in the third inning, this time off the bat of senior Kristen Fassler who hit a two-out single. The Mustangs added one more run in the sixth inning after a sacrifice bunt by junior Abbey DeFeo moved senior Lindsay Kuczak to second base before scoring on a throwing error.
Junior Briana Pichalski picked up her team leading third win of the season after striking out four.
In game two, Stevenson scored five first inning runs, four third inning runs before piling on 13 runs in the fourth.
Welch went 4-for-4 with seven RBIs and two runs while sophomore Kaitlyn Seger finished 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Sophomore Molly Hoyt struck out six in the win while also going 1-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs at the plate.
The Mustangs conclude their Florida trip on Friday, March 14 when they face Bowdoin and Richard Stockton. First pitch is at 9:00 a.m.
