Grantham, PA (May 1) – In game two of MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament action, the fourth-seeded Stevenson softball team battled until the final out against second-seeded Eastern, mounting an impressive late-game comeback before falling just short in a 10-9 decision to conclude their 2026 season.
Stevenson wasted no time getting on the board, as
Sahara Ward tripled to open the game and later scored on a sacrifice fly from
Rebecca Maiorano to give the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead. Eastern responded with a pair of strong innings to jump ahead 7-1, but Stevenson refused to back down.
The Mustangs chipped away in the third inning, highlighted by RBI doubles from
Maria Morsa and Maiorano to cut into the deficit. In the fourth,
Olivia Munoz delivered an RBI single to make it a 7-4 contest, keeping Stevenson within striking distance.
Eastern extended its lead to 10-4 in the fifth, but the Mustangs answered with their most explosive inning of the season in the sixth. Morsa launched a two-run home run to spark the rally, while
Emily Hamp followed with a clutch two-RBI double.
Tessa Boswell capped the five-run surge with another RBI double, bringing Stevenson within one at 10-9.
Despite tallying 18 hits on the day, the Mustangs were unable to push across the tying run in the seventh inning.
Morsa led the offensive charge, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, while Maiorano added a 3-for-4 performance with two RBIs. Hamp contributed two hits and two RBIs, and Munoz and
Sierra Williams each collected three hits in the effort. Ward also scored twice at the top of the lineup.

Madison Statuto (1-2) got the start, while
Lilly Tinker and
Anna Sexton combined in relief to hold Eastern scoreless over the final innings, giving the offense a chance to rally.
Stevenson closes its season with a 16-18 record, showcasing resilience and determination in a hard-fought postseason battle.
