Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Led by 13 kills from freshman Annika Schwartz, the Stevenson women's volleyball team posted a 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 victory over Lycoming in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals Wednesday evening at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
With the win, the Mustangs (28-5) advance to their third-straight Commonwealth Conference championship game where they will host Messiah. With the straight-sets win, Stevenson has yet to drop a set in five conference tournament matches.
Stevenson jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first set including two points on assisted blocks by Schwartz and senior Megan Miller. Schwartz finished with seven kills in the set.
A solo block by freshman Lauren Weaver pushed the Mustangs lead to 17-11 and sparked a 9-4 run to end the first set.
In the second set, Stevenson used a 11-2 run, including five-straight points on the serve of junior Kara Anderson who finished the match with three service aces.
The Warriors (18-17) took a 12-11 lead in the third set before the Mustangs rallied off 11-straight points, ten of those on the serve of senior Samantha Perillo. She totaled three service aces during that run and finished the match with a career-best six while also adding 15 digs.
Stevenson finished with a .312 hitting percentage while holding Lycoming to just .092. It is the 20th time this season that the Mustangs have held their opponents to under .100 hitting percentage
The Mustangs finished the match with a season-best 16 service aces, including four by Schwartz.
Stevenson and Messiah will battle for the Commonwealth Conference championship for the third-straight time on Saturday, November 8 beginning at 2:00 p.m. Earlier this season, the Mustangs defeated the Falcons in four sets.
