Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Junior Calvin Granger scored his third goal in the last four games but the Stevenson men's soccer team dropped a Commonwealth Conference contest versus Hood Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.
The loss for the Mustangs (9-4-1, 0-1-1 MAC) is the first in 10 all-time meetings versus Hood. The two teams have been conference foes since 2007 when they both were in the Capital Athletic Conference before joining the MAC in 2012.
Drew Demich put the Blazers (7-4, 2-0 MAC) on the board first with his team leading eight goal as he was able to separate from his defender before beating the keeper low to the far post.
Following a header by junior Reid Hawkins, Juliano Pillari and Hood had a break away down the other end but junior Ryan Callinan broke his line to come out with the sliding save to keep the deficit at one.
Late in the second half, sophomore Adnan Alic was able to get space at the top of the box but his shot landed in the hands of the keeper.
In the 54th minute, junior Calvin Granger gathered a ball crossed from Hawkins as Granger vollied the shot to the back post to tie the game at one. Granger is now tied for the team lead with four goals this season.
Joey Fontanez put Hood back ahead in the 68th minute after his shot from 30 yards out froze the keeper. It was his first goal of the season.
Both teams totaled 12 shots while the Mustangs held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Callinan finished with six saves while his counterpart Henry Mills totaled seven.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 11 when the Mustangs travel to face Widener in a Commonwealth Conference contest beginning at 3:00 p.m.
