Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Sophomore Landon Easler hit a laser from 25 yards to cancel out Alex Wells' third minute opener to give the Stevenson men's soccer team a 1-1 draw with Arcadia in the Commonwealth Conference opener for both teams Saturday night at Mustang Stadium.
Stevenson (9-3-1, 1-0 MAC) is now 1-1-1 in Commonwealth Conference openers and 3-0-1 in overtime this season.
The Mustangs started on the front foot as freshman Cameron Wilson ripped a shot, but his low strike was saved by Arcadia keeper Seth Shoap in the first minute of play.
The Knights (5-3-2, 0-1 MAC) struck just two minutes later, taking the lead on a solo effort by Wells who controlled a ball with his chest and then fired across the face of goal and just inside of the left post.
Bradley McKim pulled two shots wide for Arcadia while Mustang junior Ryan Callinan stopped a shot from Nick Morris in the 28th minute.
Four minutes past the half-hour mark, the Mustangs got level as senior Andrew Garner won the ball just outside of the box. Freshman Matthew Paranczak gathered the loose ball and deftly dropped the ball with a back heel to Easler who uncorked a swerving shot for his second goal of the season.
The second half started with open play, but neither team could create a concrete chance. The visitors took the opening opportunity of the frame 12 minutes in as a free kick from distance took a deflection off the wall, but Callinan scooped up the drive easily for the Mustangs.
Just past the 70-minute mark, the Mustangs looked poised to break the deadlock, gaining back-to-back corners. Off of the second set piece, the ball bounced out to sophomore Adnan Alic who fired a one-timer just outside of the post.
In the closing stages, the Knights nearly stole a winner but David Columbo shot high from a severe angle on the right wing.
In the first overtime period, each team registered a shot that went high of the mark. Stevenson recorded three shots in the second extra stanza and outshot the Knights 13-11 for the game.
Stevenson wraps up its five-game home stand by hosting in-state rival Hood on Wednesday at Mustang Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
