Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Led by three points on a goal and an assist from senior Catherine Madden (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) the Stevenson women's soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Catholic at CUA Soccer Field Thursday afternoon.
The Mustangs (5-2), ranked sixth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region, won its fourth-straight in the series against the Cardinals after losing seven in-a-row from 2003-09.
The win was also the 80th career win for head coach Graeme Millar. He is now 80-42-13 in eight seasons at Stevenson.
Catholic (4-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Kaylre Greaves at the 17:07 mark.
Junior Meaghan Williams (Dundalk, Md./Dundalk) tied the game with her first goal of the season 8:26 later on an assist from Madden.
After a nearly statistically even first half, Stevenson held an 8-4 advantage in shots in the second half including Madden's second career game-winning goal on a shot that went over the goalie from 25 yards out.
The Mustangs outshot the Cardinals 13-10 while Catholic held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Annie McCoach (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale) totaled three saves while her counterpart Lexi Halpernin had four.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 21 when it travels to face Frostburg State in a non-conference contest. Game time is at 5:00 p.m.
