Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. - Led by three points on a goal and an assist from Stevenson women's soccer senior Mackenzie Calhoun (Ellicott City, Md./Howard), the Mustangs nearly pulled of the upset over No. 2 Johns Hopkins, falling 3-2 in overtime Wednesday night at Homewood Field.
The Mustangs (4-2), who are ranked fourth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region, suffered their first loss in three road games this season and is now 8-4 on the road over the last two seasons. It was also the team's fourth defeat in as many years against the Blue Jays.
Hannah Kronick scored with 8:23 remaining in the first half to give Johns Hopkins a 1-0 lead at the break.
To begin the second half, the two teams combined for three goals in a 2:06 span, beginning with Calhoun's first goal of the season off an assist from freshman Alexis Siejack (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) in the 52nd minute.
Just 1:09 after the Blue Jays (6-0) took a 2-1 lead, junior Kaylie Yapps (Joppa, Md./Fallston) scored her second goal in as many games on an assist from Calhoun, to knot the game at 2-2.
After a scoreless 38:35, Kronick scored the game winning goal just 1:46 into the first overtime period.
Johns Hopkins outshot the Mustangs 25-6, including 9-1 in the first half while also holding a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Annie McCoach (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale) totaled a career high seven saves while her counterpart Kelly Leddy had three.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 14 when they host a non-conference contest against No. 8 Misericordia at Mustang Stadium. Game time is 5:00 p.m.
