Box Score WEST LAWN, Pa. - Stevenson junior Greg Myers (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) pitched a two-hit shutout earning a school record 10th win this season while sophomore Troy Miller (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) scored the lone run for the second-seeded Mustangs in a 1-0 elimination game victory over fourth-seeded Widener Friday at Owls Park in the 2013 Commonwealth Conference Baseball Championship.
The Mustangs (25-17) scored in the bottom of the fourth as Miller came all the way around from second due to a Widener error on a grounder hit by junior Scott Merkel (Hampstead, Md./Calvert Hall). Miller reached base earlier in the inning on a single up the middle before senior Matt Bratter (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) laid down a bunt to advance him to second.
The Pride (19-21) broke up the no-hit bid in the fifth with two outs when Matt Hone took a 2-1 pitch to right center. Myers up to that point had retired 13 of the first 16 Widener batters, issuing two walks and one reaching on error.
Widener's other hit of the game came in the next inning on an infield single by Matt Scherer.
It was the sixth complete game for Myers this season, striking out eight and walking three.
Nicholas Moeltner also pitched a complete game for the Pride surrendering four hits while allowing neither an earned run nor an error while fanning four.
Stevenson advances in the consolation bracket and faces Arcadia for the second time in as many days in an elimination game at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Freshman pitcher Alec Romanowski (Endwell, N.Y./Maine Endwell) will face the Knights' Michael Nessel on the mound.
The winner will face top-seeded Alvernia in the championship series tomorrow at 12:00 noon.
