Mustangs Win Eighth Straight in 11-1 Defeat of Gettysburg

Box Score

STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson baseball sophomore Troy Miller (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs while junior Greg Myers (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) pitched seven innings with eight strikeouts and allowed no unearned runs as the Mustangs extend their winning streak to eight by defeating Gettysburg 11-1 Wednesday afternoon at Park Field.

Stevenson (8-1) is off to their best start since 2010 and their eight game winning streak is the longest since winning seven consecutive games between Apr. 6 and Apr. 17, 2007.

Miller is the first Mustang to have four hits in a game since senior Matt Bratter (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) was 4-for-6 with four RBIs in a 21-9 victory over Frostburg State in the quarterfinals of the 2012 CAC Baseball Championship on Apr. 21, 2012.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first beginning with junior Scott Merkel (Hampstead, Md./Calvert Hall) driving in junior Tom Goulian (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) who reached base on an error.  Two more runs would come in on a two-out miscue by Bullets first baseman Austin Davis which allowed Merkel and Miller to score.  Senior Heath Johnson (New Castle, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) advanced two bases on a wild pitch to third where then freshman Ian Eberly (Harrisonburg, Va./Broadway) brought him home on a single to center field.

Gettysburg (1-1) would score their lone run in the third inning before Stevenson would answer with three of their own in the bottom half to extend their lead to 7-1.

Stevenson would tack on another run in the fourth, a pair in the fifth and one final tally in the seventh.  The Mustangs have scored 46 of their 72 runs this season between the third and fifth innings.

Eberly, Goulian, Merkel and senior Brad Blum (Olney, Md./Magruder) all went 2-for-4 on the afternoon.

The Bullets were led by Brett Norton who was 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.

Stevenson concludes their 10-game homestand with a doubleheader Saturday against Frostburg State.  First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
