Hallam, Schilling Each Homer, Mustangs Sweep Series With Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Stevenson baseball senior Josh Morris (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) was 6-for-6 with three RBIs and four runs scored while juniors Greg Myers (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) and Brooks Miller (Odenton, Md./Arundel) pitched complete games as the Mustangs swept the season series with Lebanon Valley Friday at McGill Field, winning game one 12-1 and game two, 11-7.

Stevenson (16-7, 5-4 MAC) extended its winning streak to four while posting its first conference series sweep since taking three from St. Mary's (Md.) Mar. 7-8, 2009 when it was a member of the Capital Athletic Conference.

In game one, the Mustangs took a 3-0 lead in the third on an RBI-single by Morris, a sacrifice fly by junior Scott Merkel (Hampstead, Md./Calvert Hall) and a Dutchmen throwing error that allowed Morris to score all the way from first base.

Stevenson extended the lead to six with three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run double by junior Tom Goulian (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon). Goulian later scored on an RBI-single by Morris.

In the sixth, junior Ben Hallam (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) hit a pinch-hit, three-run homer that capped a six-run inning and ended the Mustangs' 24-game team drought without a home run. It was the team's longest stretch since going 11 games from Mar. 10-25, 2012.

Hallam's pinch-hit home run was also the first for Stevenson since Dan Leonard '10 had a pinch-hit, two-run homer at Johns Hopkins on Apr. 27, 2009.

Myers picked up his fifth win of the year on the mound with a complete-game, five-hitter, striking out eight and walking five.

In the nightcap, Stevenson continued its offensive onslaught with five runs in the first. Merkel started things off with an RBI-single before Hallam and sophomore Bret Schilling (Catonsville, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) each had two-run singles.

The Dutchmen (5-13, 2-7 MAC) would score four runs in its half of the first before the two squads each scored a run in the second.

In the top of the third, Schilling drove in what proved to be the game-winning runs with a two-run homer to right that plated senior Heath Johnson (New Castle, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) to give the Mustangs an 8-5 advantage.

On the mound, Miller also earned his fifth win of the season, scattering 11 hits and allowing five earned runs in the complete game outing.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday with a nonconference contest at Penn State Harrisburg. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
