STEVENSON, Md. – The Mustangs were able to defeat Eastern this afternoon by edging their opponents in two tiebreakers at both the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matchups.
After taking the first set 6-4, junior Jordan Rupard (North Beach, Md./Southern) was able to defeat Kim Kirk at No. 3 singles in a tiebreaker for the second set, which ended in Stevenson's favor by a mere two points. At No. 4 singles, sophomore, Svetlana Widell (St. Michael's, Md./St. Michael's) rallied back after splitting sets 4-6, 7-5. Widell edged her opponent in the third set tiebreaker 10-6.
Widell also teamed up with junior Katie Fersch (Mechanicsburg, Md./Chopticon) to post their second consecutive victory at No. 2 doubles. Fersch also recorded a win at No. 5 singles in straight sets.
Also recording their second consecutive doubles victory was the junior pair of Rupard and Rachael Sandora (Bellmawr, N.J./Wildwood) who posted a win at No. 3 doubles over Eastern's Elaine Grazulis and Angela Anthony.
Senior Megan Heagy (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) also won in straight sets at No. 2 singles.
The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, March 30 where they face the Eagles of Juniata who are coached by former Stevenson head coach, Jason Cohen.
