Box Score READING, Pa. - Highlighted by five first goals in a 25:05 span, including one by leading scorer Chris Panian (Monkton, Md./John Carroll), the Stevenson men's soccer team fell on the road to Alvernia 3-2 Saturday at Schlager Memorial Field.
With the win, the Crusaders (8-9-2, 5-3-1 MAC) clinched a spot in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs as the three-seed. They will travel to face the No. 3 seed, Elizabethtown.
Alvernia took the early lead just 2:16 into the game off a corner kick.
The Mustangs (8-10-2, 3-5-1 MAC) would tie the game at one on a goal by sophomore Zachary Martin (Fallston, Md./Fallston), his second of the season, on an assist from junior Dino Gilmanov (Krasnodar, Russia/North Hagerstown).
The Crusaders would take the lead two minutes later on a goal by Alex Martyn.
In the 26th minute, Panian scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season unassisted on breakaway. Panian and junior Yianni Sarioglou (Perry Hall, Md./Clavert Hall) finished the year with 25 points each.
Less than two minutes later Josh Wollaston scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.
Sophomore Ryan Callinan (Edison, N.J./Saint Joseph's) finished with nine saves while his counterpart David Giannini had five.
Alvernia outshot Stevenson 19-16 while also holding a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.
