Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Led by four saves from Most Outstanding Player Jackie Law and conversions on three if its four shootout attempts, Arcadia edged the Stevenson women's soccer team 3-1 on penalty kicks to win the 2013 ECAC Division III South Women's Soccer Championship Sunday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (14-8-3) finish the season one win shy of the school record and are now 7-3-2 in five appearances in the ECAC South Championship. The team also finished unbeaten in six of their last seven home games.
In three all-time meetings against the Knights (13-4-6), neither team has scored a goal in 330 minutes of play, as all three games have ended in 0-0 double overtime ties dating back to October 6 of last season.
Stevenson had the biggest opportunity of the game 9:23 into the second half after a corner kick by senior Shannon McGuire found sophomore Allie Ondrejcak. But the goal was called off after a foul by the Mustangs against Law.
A back and forth game that saw 24 shots and 31 fouls, both goalies came up big as Law and Alicia Greene combined for nine saves, each with one in the overtime periods.
After connecting on six of their seven penalty kicks the night before, the Mustangs were only able to score once. Law stopped two shots in the shootout as the third went wide.
The game marked the end of the careers of McGuire, Alexa Narron, Catherine Madden, Mackenzie Calhoun, Mandy Marston and Jamie Matlock. Together they have compiled a 55-26-10 record for a .659 winning percentage. In their four years they totaled four postseason appearances, including one in the 2010 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship, and three apearances in the conference championship match, including winning the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference. In 2012 they won the programs first postseason championship.
