OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's soccer freshman Alexis Siejack scored the game's lone goal in the 12th minute to lead the top-seeded Mustangs to a 1-0 victory over Commonwealth Conference rival and eighth-seeded Alvernia Wednesday at Mustang Stadium in the first round of the 2013 ECAC Division III South Championship.

With the win, the defending champion Mustangs (14-8-1) advance to the ECAC semifinals for the third time in as many seasons while moving one win closer to the school record of 15 set in 2006, 2009 and 2012.

For the first time in five ECAC appearances, Stevenson will host the semifinals and championship which will be this Saturday and Sunday at Mustang Stadium. The Mustangs will host fourth-seeded Grove City at 5:00 p.m., while seventh-seeded Arcadia will face sixth-seeded Swarthmore at 7:00 p.m.

Stevenson defeated Alvernia by a 1-0 margin in overtime on the road just 11 days earlier in what was the last game for the Crusaders entering tonight. Sophomore Allie Ondrejcak scored the lone goal for the Mustangs in that one.

Siejack scored her team-leading 15th of the season off an assist from senior Catherine Madden on a cross from the right side. It was the fourth assist of the year for Madden, second-most on the team behind junior Meaghan Williams who has eight.

Alvernia (11-8-2) threatened to tie the game with less than two minutes remaining when sophomore Alicia Greene totaled both of her two saves in the game just four seconds apart on point blank shots by Bridget Verdel and Katelyn Gill in the box.

The save on Verdel came on a one-on-one situation in which Greene deflected the attempt for the lower right corner with her right foot. The rebound bounced right to Gill who then sent a shot from right of the box just 10 yards out right into the chest of Greene.

Greene improved her record to 5-2 in seven starts this season. It was also her third shutout.

Stevenson dominated the game statistically, outshooting the Crusaders 20-5 and holding an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Colleen Maher finished with seven saves in 86:01 for Alvernia before giving way to Alyss Reinsel who had one save over the final 3:59.
