Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Stevenson men's soccer senior Chris Panian (Monkton, Md./John Carroll) scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 61st minute, but the Mustangs could not overcome a 3-0 first-half deficit as they fell to Elizabethtown on the road Tuesday night, 5-1 at Ira R. Herr Field.
Stevenson (7-8-2, 2-3-1 MAC) fell to 0-8 on the road this season compared to 7-0-2 at home at Mustang Stadium.
Despite the loss, the Mustangs are still in a five-way tie for fourth-place in the Commonwealth Conference standings after Hood, Arcadia and Lycoming all lost tonight. The top five teams advance to the 2013 Commonwealth Conference Men's Soccer Championship which begins on Monday, November 4.
The Blue Jays (8-5-2, 5-1 MAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 11:13 into the game after Zach Hollinger scored his first two goals of the season only 2:39 apart at 8:44 and 11:23.
Kyle Volk, who also finished with two goals, added his first in the 36th minute off a corner kick to give Elizabethtown a 3-0 halftime lead.
Stevenson would get on the board at 60:34 when Panian scored off a double assist from seniors Jake Bond (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and Nico Garcia (Silver Spring, Md./Blake). It was Bond's first point of the season and the second of his career. He also had an assist in a 5-2 victory over Penn State Brandywine at home on Sept. 23, 2012.
For Panian, he now has 17 goals and 38 points in just two seasons at Stevenson, a span of 34 games, since transferring from Harford Community College. He currently ranks seventh in school history in career goals and eighth in points.
Volk added his second goal just 2:26 after Panian before Brent Batory added his second of the season in the 86th minute.
Junior Pat Carey (Brooklyn Park, Md./North County) made his seventh start of the season in goal for the Mustangs, finishing with two saves in just under 35 minutes before giving way to freshman Michael Tringali (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) who had three saves over the final 55:05.
Rodrigo Barrera made nine saves for the Blue Jays who were outshot, 20-19.
Stevenson returns home to the friendly confines of Mustang Stadium on Saturday where it will face Albright on Senior Day beginning at 1:00 p.m.
