Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer sophomore Zachary Martin (Fallston, Md./Fallston) scored his first goal of the season and the second of his career in the 34th minute, but Lebanon Valley's Matt Henly countered with his first in the 72nd minute as the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium.
The Mustangs (7-6-2, 2-1-1 MAC) remained unbeaten in nine games at home this season, but the tie dropped them into third place in the Commonwealth Conference standings after Elizabethtown defeated Arcadia at home tonight to improve to 3-1.
Martin's first goal since Sept. 1, 2012, a span of 23 games, came on a lob from the far right side of the goal that looked to be a cross, finding its way into the upper left corner over the outstretched arms of Lebanon Valley keeper James Clements.
Neither team would find the back of the net again until Henly took advantage of a wide open net after Mustang junior Pat Carey (Brooklyn Park, Md./North County) misplayed the ball in the box.
The Dutchmen (6-5-3, 0-3-1 MAC) held a slim 16-15 edge in shots while Stevenson slight advantage in corner kicks, 8-6. Both teams were whistled for nine fouls.
Clements made seven saves for Lebanon Valley while Carey had four for the Mustangs.
Stevenson had a chance to win the game in the final 10 seconds of regulation, but a shot by senior Christopher Panian (Monkton, Md./John Carroll) at the top of the box was deflected by a Dutchmen defender and deflected up and off the crossbar, keeping the game tied at 1-1.
The Mustangs, who finish the season with four of its final five regular season contests on the road, begin their quest for a spot in the conference tournament with a game at No. 2-ranked and defending champion Messiah on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
