Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson field hockey team outshot and earned nearly three times as many penalty corners as Shenandoah, but the Hornets' Sarah DeLuca scored both goals as they posted a 2-0 non-conference victory Saturday night at Mustang Stadium.
The loss was the second-straight for Stevenson (2-3) and the team's second in four games at home this season.
Meanwhile, the win was the second consecutive for Shenandoah (5-2) who avenged a 3-2 overtime loss on the same field a year ago in the Black-Eyed Susan Tournament on Sept. 3, 2011. The Hornets have outscored their opponents 15-0 over the last two games.
The Mustangs held an 18-7 advantage in shots and a 17-6 margin in penalty corners, but could not find the back of the cage as Sarah Clare totaled six saves, including four in the second half where Stevenson held a commanding 14-1 edge in shots.
Despite being on the short end statistically, Shenandoah made the most of its limited opportunities, scoring twice on just seven shots, including once on its only attempt of the second half.
After DeLuca's first goal with 11:20 remaining in the first half, Stevenson's defense held the Hornets' without a shot for 32:38 until DeLuca notched her team-leading 10th goal of the season just 1:23 after the Mustangs pulled their goalie in favor of an extra field player with kicking priviledges.
Freshman Katie Cavanaugh (Parkville, Md./Perry Hall) recorded one save in 68:37 of action.
Stevenson travels to former CAC rival Frostburg State on Tuesday for a 5:00 p.m., contest with the Bobcats.
