Malloy Scores First Career Goal, Mustangs Fall to No. 6 Hopkins in Home Opener

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's soccer sophomore Molly Malloy (York, Pa./York Suburban) scored her first career goal in the 84th minute, but the Mustangs fell to No. 6 Johns Hopkins in a evenly-match and physical match-up Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium.

The loss was the first of the season for Stevenson (4-1) who entered the game ranked fourth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region.

The game was scoreless until the 27th minute when Hopkins scored first on an unassisted tally by Hannah Kronick. The goal came after an injury to Mustang freshman keeper Allison Johnson (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) who came out to the top of the box to corral a loose ball, but collided with a Blue Jay forward, injurying her knee on the play.

As a result, Kronick easily drove the ball into the back of the empty net from 19 yards out. The goal was Kronick's team-leading fourth of the season.

Johnson left the game and was replaced by freshman Rebecca Moore (Middletown, Md./Middletown) who allowed the last two goals over the final 63:48, including the game-winner to Allie Baker who netted her first of the season at 37:50 on a mishandled cross that she tapped inside the left post.

Christina Convey added an insurance goal for the Blue Jays (4-1-1) in the 63rd minute before Malloy helped Stevenson avoid its fourth-straight shutout against Johns Hopkins with her first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore Meaghan Williams (Dundalk, Md./Dundalk), her team-leading third of the season.

Moore finished with a career-high three saves while Meredith Maguire and Sarah Benett were not required to make a save for the Blue Jays as they held a 9-2 edge in shots. Both teams had three corner kicks.

Stevenson looks to get back in the win column Saturday when it travels to Rowan for a 3:30 p.m., contest with the Profs. The two teams have met in each of the last three seasons, including the first round of the 2010 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.
