Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Stevenson junior Jamie Matlock (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland) scored the game-tying and insurance goals, as part of four unanswered goals over 51 minutes to soundly defeat St. Mary's (Md.), 4-1, in the opening game of the Gettysburg Cup at Clark Field on Friday.
The Mustangs (1-0) avenged a 2-1 loss to the Seahawks in last year's CAC semifinals at home on Nov. 2, 2011.
St. Mary's (Md.) (0-1) opened up the scoring in the 16th minute off a tally by Johanna Rambo.
Matlock would notch her first of two goals nine minutes later on a far post header off a feed from senior Kayla Curry (Timonium, Md./John Carroll).
Stevenson's defense would hold the Seahawks without a shot for over 37 minutes, as the Mustangs outshot them 9-2 in the first half and 27-5 for the game.
In the 47th minute, Shannon McGuire (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) converted a penalty kick for the game-winning goal, the first of her career.
Matlock scored her second of the game, 13th of her career, on a one-timer with a helper from junior Mandy Marston (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame).
Freshman Alicia Greene (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) rounded out the scoring with her first collegiate goal on an assist by sophomore Meaghan Williams (Dundalk, Md./Dundalk) from the center of the box.
Stevenson takes on host Gettysburg tomorrow night in the finale of the Gettysburg Cup. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
