SALISBURY, Md. - Stevenson baseball senior Justin Anderson (Shrewsbury, Pa./Calvert Hall) tied the school's career hits record with the 202nd hit of his career while senior Tony Prescott (Elkridge, Md./Howard) hit his ninth home run of the season as the Mustangs dropped a CAC doubleheader at No. 3 Salisbury Saturday, 9-7 and 4-3.
As a result, Stevenson (18-17-2, 8-10 CAC) will be the fifth-seed in next week's CAC Baseball Championship and will travel to No. 2-seed York (Pa.) on Tuesday, April 17 in the first round.
Anderson picked up his career hit No. 200 in the opener with a single through the right side. He then went 2-for-3 in the second game to tie the school's career hits record set by Matt Waltrop from 2003-06.
Meanwhile, Prescott accounted for all three of the Mustangs' runs in the nightcap as he was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer in the top of the first. He now has nine home runs this season and is one shy of the school record set by Max Eckert in 2009.
After the Sea Gulls (26-6, 15-3 CAC) scored a run in the bottom of the first in game two on an RBI-single by Tyler Bennett, Stevenson would hold Salisbury scoreless over the next five innings and take a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
Hank Adams had a pinch-hit, two-run double to tie the game at 3-3 before the Mustangs chose to load the bases with one out by intentionally walking Joey Jones. The Sea Gulls would win in walk-off fashion after a wild pitch by Stevenson senior Pat Quinn (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) scored pinch runner Nick Walls, giving them the series sweep and improving their home record to 15-4 this season.
Junior Josh Morris (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) was 2-for-4 in the second game, extending his hitting streak to a season-long eight games.
After both teams scored two runs in the first inning of game one, Salisbury scored one in the bottom of the fourth on a leadoff home run by Kyle Hayman to take a 3-2 lead.
The Mustangs would answer with two runs in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer by senior Zac Stavish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) to take their first lead of the game, but the Sea Gulls responded with four runs in their half of the inning on a pair of two-run doubles by Walls and Chris Connor to take the lead for good, 7-4.
Salisbury added two more runs in the sixth to take a five-run lead before Stevenson capped the scoring with three runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run double by junior Heath Johnson (New Castle, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) and an RBI-single from junior Brad Blum (Olney, Md./Magruder).
Dan Fein picked up the win for the Sea Gulls after entering the game in relief in the fifth with runners on first and second and two outs.
Senior D.J. Milliken (Owings, Md./Northern) took the loss for the Mustangs, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs in 5.0 innings of work.
Stavish was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs while Prescott was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Johnson finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
First pitch between Stevenson and York (Pa.) is at 3:30 p.m., on Wednesday at Jaquet Field. The Mustangs won two out of three on the road against the Spartans this season on March 17 and 18.
