Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - After a scoreless regulation and overtime, the Stevenson women's soccer team scored on three of its five penalty kicks in the shootout while freshman Allison Johnson (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) stopped three of Elizabethtown's attempts to send the Mustangs to the Commonwealth Conference title game Sunday at Messiah.
Stevenson (12-4-3) and the Blue Jays battled to a 110-minute draw for the second time this season at Mustang Stadium after the two teams tied 1-1 back on October 16.
The win sends the Mustangs to their third conference title game in the last four years after they advance to the Capital Athletic Conference championship game in 2009 and 2010, winning the title in 2010 with a 1-0 double overtime victory over Frostburg State on November 6.
Saturday also marked the third postseason shootout for Stevenson in the last five years. In 2009, they were edged by Mary Washington on penalty kicks 4-2 in the CAC title game a year after Hood advanced to the CAC semifinals on PK's, 3-1.
For Elizabethtown (10-3-6), it was the team's 12th overtime contest in the last two seasons. During that time, the team has posted a 4-0-8 record, including a mark of 2-0-6 in 2012. However, it was the first time that the Blue Jays had been in a shootout since at least 2002.
The Mustangs converted its first two penalty kicks to take a 2-1 lead, but the missed on their next two while Trisha Clark scored for Elizabethtown in the fourth round to tie the shootout at 2-2.
In the fifth round, freshman Allie Ondrejcak (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) scored past Blue Jay keeper Jess Manchak to put the pressure on the Blue Jays to extend the shootout. However, Johnson, who was named to the All-Commonwealth Conference First Team on Friday, came up with the save to send Stevenson to the Sunday's Commonwealth Conference final.
Johnson came up with three big stops in the shootout after making a career-high 10 saves in regulation and overtime, including four each in the first and second half.
Elizabethtown held a 24-12 advantage in shots and a 12-6 edge in corner kicks while Manchak finished with four saves.
Stevenson and Messiah will meet for just the third time in school history on Sunday. The Falcons, who are looking for their sixth-straight Commonwealth Conference championship, defeated Lebanon Valley in Friday's other semifinal contest, 4-0.
Game time on Sunday will be at noon.
