GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Stevenson field hockey team took a 1-0 lead less than 19 minutes into the game, but Arcadia scored four consecutive goals as the fourth-seeded Knights defeated the fifth-seeded Mustangs 6-2 in the first round of the Commonwealth Conference Field Hockey Championship Wednesday at Easton Field.

Stevenson (8-12) concludes its season with the third-most wins in school history and in the conference tournament for the seventh-straight season.

Sophomore Caitlin Dempsey (Fallston, Md./Fallston) scored her eighth goal of the season just 18:22 into the game when she redirected her own rebound past Arcadia keeper Mia DePlato.

The Mustangs would hold their 1-0 lead for over 10 minutes until there was less than seven minutes remaining in the first half when Jennie Kamel scored the first of her four goals off an assist from Marilyn Beatty to tie the game at 1-1.

The goal was the first of three in a span of 2:29 for the Knights (15-5) who took a 3-1 lead into the half. Beatty scored the second before Kamel added her second of the first half.

Kamel and Beatty combined for five goals and 12 points with Kamel scoring four times and Beatty added a goal and two assists.

Arcadia pushed its advantage to four with 15:07 left in the second half before Stevenson freshman Karen Mata (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) cut the Knights' lead in half at 4-2 just 2:03 later with her third goal of the season.

However, that would be as close as the Mustangs would get as Molly Goldstein scored for Arcadia with 3:02 to play and Kamel netted her fourth as time expired.

The Knights held a 19-7 advantage in shots and a 16-2 margin in penalty corners.

Freshman Katie Cavanaugh (Parkville, Md./Perry Hall) totaled four saves in 63:54 before giving way to sophomore Katelynn DeFiore (Salisbury, Md./James Bennett) made one stop in 3:02.

DePlato had two saves for Arcadia who won its first playoff game since 2002. The Knights will now travel to top-seeded Messiah on Friday in the semifinals at 4:00 p.m.
