Mustangs Earn First Win, Blank Elizabethtown on Matlock's Second Half Goal

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – A second half goal by Stevenson women's soccer sophomore Jamie Matlock (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland) proved to be the difference as the Mustangs earned their first win of the season Saturday, 1-0 over host Elizabethtown in the Blue Jay Classic.

Stevenson (1-0-1), who is unbeaten in six of its last seven, outshot the Blue Jays 13-9, including 9-4 in the first half. The bench contributed more than half of the Mustangs' shots, outshooting Elizabethtown's bench, 7-0.

In two games this season, Stevenson has outshot its opponents, 36-11.

Matlock's third shot of the day was her third career game-winning goal and came in the 52nd minute when she dribbled past Elizabethtown defenders and found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Since 2008, Stevenson has posted 24 shutout wins, including seven, 1-0 decisions. Senior Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna Park) finished the game with four saves, two of which came after the go ahead goal, and earned the 12th shutout of her career and second this season.

Jess Manchak made seven saves for the Blue Jays (0-1).

Stevenson will face the College of New Jersey on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., in the final game of the Blue Jay Classic.
