Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - An own goal in the 52nd minute of a scoreless game proved to be the difference as the Stevenson men's soccer game opened their final season in the CAC with a 1-0 loss on the road at Mary Washington Saturday at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
It was the fifth game out of nine this season for the Mustangs (4-4-1, 0-1 CAC) in which they did not allow the opponent to score. Senior Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) made nine saves, his second-highest total this year.
Flannelly also kept Stevenson within striking distance after saving a penalty kick by Tommy Sangbouasy in the 75th minute.
Meanwhile, the Eagles (4-4, 2-0 CAC) remained atop the conference standings after holding a 21-9 advantage in shots, including a 12-4 margin in the first half.
The Mustangs mustered three shots on goal, two of which came from sophomore Steve Hamilton (Manchester/North Carroll).
Tyler Back made three saves for Mary Washington.
Stevenson returns home to face Wesley this Wednesday, September 28 at 4:00 p.m.
