Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Reserve Jonathan Joseph came off the bench and scored less than a minute later to lead Penn State Harrisburg over the Stevenson men's soccer team 1-0 Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium, snapping the Mustangs' 12-game home unbeaten streak which date back to Sept. 18, 2010.
The last loss for Stevenson (4-3-1) at home came versus CAC rival St. Mary's (Md.), 3-2 in double overtime.
Senior goalie Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex), who also saw his personal streak of 391 minutes without allowing a goal come to an end, recorded five saves in the losing effort. The reigning CAC Defensive Player of the Week hadn't allowed a goal since September 3 versus Franklin & Marshall.
Flannelly was called into action earluy as the Nittany Lions (3-1) peppered the Mustang net with consecutive shots in the sixth minute.
Later in the first half, sophomore Marcus Green (Rosedale/Overlea) appeared to have a one-on-one chance with Penn State Harrisburg goalie Josh Wolff, but was ruled offside by the assistant referee, keeping the game scoreless.
After a tense end to the first half in which the Nittany Lions were given five yellow cards in the final 15 minutes, they took advantage of some early possession. Joseph received the ball on the right edge of the box, got a step on the defender and fired the ball into the near corner for the eventual game-winner.
Stevenson held the upper hand for much of the remaining time, but could not get the equalizer, despite a late attempt by freshman Fabian Allen (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Morristown (N.J.)).
Junior Ryan Pierce (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) got free down the left side and lofted a ball across the box, but it did not find anyone and cleared through, enabling the Nittany Lions to hold their one-goal advantage.
The Mustangs gained a couple of late corners, but could not find the equalizer. They held a 7-3 margin in corners in the second half.
Stevenson returns to action this Saturday as it begins its final season in the CAC with a road contest at Mary Washington beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Mustangs won last season's match up at home, 2-1.
