Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. - Led by a balanced effort that saw seven players total at least three kills, including nine each from sophomores Christine Isenberg (Taneytown/Francis Scott Key) and Jessica Gieselman (Westminster/Winters Mill), the Stevenson women's volleyball team opened the CAC portion of its 2011 schedule with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-19 victory at Marymount (Va.) Wednesday.
The Mustangs (9-1, 1-0 CAC) totaled 41 kills, 70 digs and 11 total blocks in winning their fifth-straight game on the road this season.
The win was also the 100th in collegiate career of fifth-year head coach Dave Trumbo whose career record now stands at 100-49. All totaled, he has won 267 games as a volleyball coach which include his record of 167-31 as the head coach of Liberty High School.
With the first set tied at 12-12, Stevenson rode the serve of Gieselman and senior Jamie Krens (Owings Mills/Franklin) and scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a 22-14 lead en route to the nine-point win.
After a service aces by the Saints (2-7, 0-2 CAC) that cut their deficit to one at 9-8, the Mustangs closed the game on a 16-6 run with have of those 16 points contributed by eight Marymount errors.
The Saints committed 20 of their 23 attack errors in the first two sets compared to just 17 kills as they posted a minus-.034 hitting percentage.
Stevenson jumped out to an 11-1 advantage in the third set, scoring 11 consecutive points on the serve of Krens after Marymount took a 1-0 lead. Krens totaled all three of her service aces during the run while adding two digs.
Senior Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) led the Mustangs with a game-high 22 digs while freshman Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del/Wilmington Friends) added a career-high 16. Isenberg had 10 digs, just missing her fourth double double in nine career games.
Gieselman added 21 assists and eight digs to go along with her nine kills while junior Avery Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) and senior Brooke Gilley (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) had seven and five kills, respectively. Junior Kristen Lubeski (Bishopville/Stephen Decatur) had thre kills and three total blocks.
Jennifer Forbes led the Saints with eight kills and Michelle McCormick had 18 digs.
Stevenson continues its four-game road trip on Saturday with a tri-match at CAC rival St. Mary's (Md.) beginning at 1:00 p.m.
