Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. - Led by a season-high 10 saves from senior goalkeeper Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex), the Stevenson men's soccer team overcame an 18-5 deficit in shots on the road as it posted its third shutout of the season, blanking host Dickinson 2-0 Sunday to win the Red Devil Classic.
The Mustangs (3-2) ended their five-game road trip to begin the 2011 season on a two-game winning streak with back-to-back shutouts.
For Flannelly, it was his 11th career shutout. He totaled five saves in each half.
Despite being outshot by 13, including 11-1 in the second half, Stevenson made the most of its chances to take home the title. Sophomore Josh Stover (West Friendship/Marriotts Ridge) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 28th minute on a rebound off a shot by senior Ryan Brost (Pennington N.J./Hopewell Valley) that was saved by Cody Hickock.
The Red Devils (2-1-2) continued their assault in the second half, but the Mustangs' defense, led by Flannelly, senior Jeff Hohl (Sykesville/Century) and sophomore Jake Bond (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), recorded their second consecutive shutout and third in five games this season.
After absorbing 11 second half shots, Stevenson doubled its lead in the 85th minute when sophomore Marcus Green (Rosedale/Overlea) scored off an assist from freshman Andrew Garner (Owings/Northern) who tallied his first career point on the play.
The Mustangs now return home for their first game at Mustang Stadium on Monday with a non-conference contest against Penn State Brandywine at 4:00 p.m. Last season, the Mustangs posted a 11-1-2 record at home.
