Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - Stevenson baseball junior Zac Stavish (Westminster/South Carroll) totaled two of the team's five hits and drove in the lone run with an RBI single in the eighth, but the Mustangs fell victim to a strong pitching performance from Chris Greiner in an 8-1 loss at Salisbury in a CAC contest Friday at SU Baseball Field.
Stavish went 2-for-4 with one RBI as Stevenson (7-20, 3-10 CAC) suffered its 14th loss in 15 road games this season.
Salisbury (14-8, 9-4 CAC) won its 13th-straight at home as Greiner allowed just five hits while striking out five over eight innings in earning his fourth win of the season. He held the Mustangs scoreless through 7.2 innings, retiring nine-straight batters at one point, before surrendering a two-out single to Stavish that scored freshman Thomas Goulian (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon).
The Sea Gulls jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, scoring five runs in the bottom of the third on two hits, two Stevenson errors and three walks. John Schiotis had a two-run double while Ken O'Neill and Bill Root each had RBIs on a part of suicide squeeze bunts.
Freshman Jimmy Young (Sykesville/Liberty) suffered the loss as he allowed seven runs, eight hits and four walks over 5.0 innings. Senior Randy Bond (Brandywine/Riverdale Baptist) and junior Nick Meyer (Ellicott City/Mount Hebron) combined to allow just one run and two hits over the final three innings.
Goulian, junior Kyle Van Beek (Bel Air/John Carroll) and junior Mitch Berman (Hampstead/North Carroll) each had one hit for Stevenson who was 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.
Stevenson and Salisbury wrap-up their three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium Field in Aberdeen beginning at 2:00 p.m.
