Box Score ABERDEEN, Md. - A four-run sixth inning and a complete game, two-run effort by Washington (Md.) pitcher Kyle Aldrich was the key as the Shoremen jumped out to a 7-1 lead and cruised to an 8-2 non-conference victory to hand the Stevenson baseball team its first home loss Wednesday at Yankee Stadium Field.
The Mustangs (5-10) had won three-straight and five of six overall with all five wins coming at home.
Aldrich scattered eight hits over nine innings and did not allow a walk as he picked up his first career complete game. He entered the game having not allowed an earned run in two previous appearances and 4.2 innings pitched this season.
Both teams scored a run in the first with Washington (3-2) scoring on an RBI ground out by John Rolewicz before Stevenson answered with an RBI single by junior Justin Anderson (Shrewsbury, Pa./Calvert Hall) in the bottom of the inning.
The Shoremen took the lead for good on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Normoyle in the top of the fifth before scoring four runs in the sixth, including three unearned as a result of a Mustang error. Joe Willis led off the inning by reaching on a fielding error before scoring on a single by Mike Love. Nick Marinelli drove in the second run with a single to center before scoring the fourth run on a balk.
Each team scored a run in the ninth with Stevenson scoring on an RBI single by freshman Garrett Sites (Catonsville/Cardinal Gibbons) in his first career plate appearance.
The Mustangs were 8-for-33 against Aldrich with the top four spots in the order going 5-for-15 and the last five 3-for-18. Anderson and senior Jeff Bihy (Baltimore/Eastern Tech) each went 2-for-4 while senior Cody Schuchman (Baltimore/Calvert Hall) was 2-for-3.
Freshman Thomas Goulian (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to a team-best eight games.
Sophomore Chris Street (Laurel/Reservoir) suffered his first loss in his first career start, allowing six runs, seven hits and three walks over 5.0 innings.
Marinelli was 3-for-4 with one RBI for the Shoremen while Normoyle and Ian Remington each went 2-for-4 with one run driven in.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday with a non-conference contest against former CAC rival Gallaudet in Washington, D.C. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m.
