Box Score 2 ABERDEEN, Md. – The Stevenson baseball team couldn't get much offense going in a CAC doubleheader with York (Pa.) on home Saturday, totaling just three runs on 15 hits, including one run on four hits in the opener as the Spartans swept both games at Yankee Stadium Field, 5-1 and 6-2.
The Mustangs (5-13, 2-6 CAC) have lost four-straight and are a game-and-a-half behind York (Pa.) for fifth in the conference standings and one-game behind St. Mary's (Md.) for sixth.
In game one, Andy Rosenzweig threw a complete game four-hitter, walking two and striking out two en route to picking up his third win in four starts this season.
Stevenson junior D.J. Milliken (Owings/Northern) matched Rosenzweig almost pitch for pitch through four innings, allowing just one run on a lead-off home run to C.T. Stanley in the top of the second as the Mustangs trailed 1-0 going into the fifth.
However, York (4-8, 3-4 CAC) took control of the game with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, highlighted by a two-run double from Joe Doyle in the top of the sixth that provided the final margin. He had three of York's eight hits, finishing the game 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Four Mustangs each recorded one hit, including a double by sophomore Mitch Berman (Hampstead/North Carroll) who came around to score the team's lone run in the bottom of the fourth as a result of an error by Rosenzweig.
While Stevenson was limited in its opportunities in game one, it was its inability to capitalize on them in game two. The Mustangs left nine runners on base in the game, including at least one in each of their seven offensive innings. They were also 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position.
The Spartans built a 3-1 lead after three innings, scoring all three on RBI double by Rob Klinck and Justin Cohen. Doyle added his second RBI double of the day in the fifth before scoring on a single to center by Devon Harbold to stretch the lead to four before both teams scored a run in the seventh to provide the final margin.
Junior Justin Anderson (Shrewsbury, Pa./Calvert Hall) was 3-for-4 with an RBI double to lead the Mustangs' offense while freshman Scott Merkel (Hampstead/Calvert Hall) went 2-for-2. Freshman Thomas Goulian (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and senior Dustin Tarlow (Finksburg/Westminster) also had two hits apiece.
Freshman Ryan Kellough (Waldorf/Thomas Stone) suffered his first loss in his second career start as he allowed eight hits, four earned runs and two walks. He also struck out three. York's Joey Couch picked up his first win in his fourth start of the season, scattering seven hits over five innings while not surrendering an earned run.
Cohen, Doyle and Klinck all went 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Spartans.
Stevenson begins a four-game road trip on Tuesday with a nine-inning, non-conference contest versus Washington & Lee. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m.
