Mustangs Fall in CAC Championship at Salisbury, Await NCAA Selections Monday

SALISBURY, Md. - After a tightly contested first set that featured 10 ties, Salisbury totaled 28 kills and a .431 hitting percentage over the next two as the Sea Gulls posted their 12th-straight victory with a 25-22, 25-15, 25-15 win over Stevenson Saturday at the Maggs Physical Activities to capture the team's seventh CAC Volleyball Championship.

The loss snapped a 19-game winning streak for the Mustangs (31-3) who lost for the first time since a 3-1 loss to Salisbury at home on September 21.

Meanwhile, the Sea Gulls (31-3) improved their record to 9-0 at home this season.

Stevenson totaled 15 kills in the first set and hit .324 compared to 12 kills and a .216 hitting percentage for Salisbury.

However, the Mustangs totaled just 15 kills to go along with 15 errors over the final two sets while the Sea Gulls totaled 28 kills and a .431 hitting percentage, committing just three errors in 58 attempts.

In addition to their 19 attack errors, the Mustangs also had six service errors and seven reception errors.

Salisbury had a hand in Stevenson low attack percentage as it amassed 16 total blocks in the game, including 12 in the final two sets.

Sophomore Christine Isenberg (Taneytown/Francis Scott Key) led the Mustangs with a game-high 10 kills and six digs. Freshman Megan Miller (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Tech) had six kills while senior Brooke Gilley (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) had four. The trio combined for 20 kills and hit .283 while the rest of the team had 10 and a minus-.043 percentage.

Junior Avery Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) finished with five kills. Senior Amy Rudolph (North East/Rising Sun) had seven digs and freshman Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) had six.

Sam Seifert tied Isenberg with a game-high 10 kills for the Sea Gulls while Carley Todd had eight kills, five digs, four blocks and four service aces. Chelsea Glowacki had five kills and six blocks.

Salisbury advances to its seventh NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship and fourth in the last five seasons while Stevenson hopes for the program's first-ever appearance when the selections are announced on NCAA.com at 11:00 a.m., on Monday. The Mustangs are currently ranked fourth in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region.
