Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Lexy McCarty scored her second goal of the season in the game's 66th minute to lead sixth-seeded St. Mary's (Md.) to a 2-1 victory over second-seeded and defending CAC champion Stevenson in the semifinals of the 2011 CAC Women's Soccer Championship Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium.
The loss snaps a five-game unbeaten streak for Stevenson (12-5-3) and is its first at home since a 1-0 loss to No. 21 Rowan on October 8.
Reigning CAC Defensive Player of the Week Kelsey Wirtz made seven saves for the Seahawks, including five in the first half as they were outshot 16-5. For the game, the Mustangs held a 27-7 advantage in shots.
Yvonne Latour gave St. Mary's (6-6-3) a 1-0 lead off an assist from Johanna Rambo on the team's first shot of the game less than 20 minutes in.
The Seahawks, who evened their record at 3-3-2 on the road this season, held its one-goal lead until the 32nd minute when Stevenson sophomore Jamie Matlock (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland) scored her seventh goal of the year and fifth in her last nine games to tie the game at 1-1.
Matlock also scored in the first meeting between the two schools, a 3-0 win for the Mustangs on October 5 in which six different players scored.
Senior Brittany Ross (Millersville/Severna Park) finished with five saves for Stevenson who held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Seahawks advance to Saturday's CAC championship game at Salisbury after the top-seeded Sea Gulls rallied from a 2-1 deficit at home to post a 3-2 victory over fifth-seeded Mary Washington.
Meanwhile, Stevenson awaits selections for the 2011 ECAC Division III Women's Soccer South Championship which will be announced on Monday, November 7.
