Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer sophomore Josh Stover (West Friendship/Marriotts Ridge) scored his first goal since September 11 in the 11th minute as the Mustangs snapped a three-game home losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Hood Saturday at Mustang Stadium.
Stevenson (6-6-1, 2-2 CAC) posted their second win in the last three games and second-straight against conference competition.
Stover scored his second goal of the season on a through ball from freshman Yianni Sarioglou (Perry Hall/Calvert Hall) that beat Hood keeper Will Kane inside the left post. It was also Stover's second game-winner this season and first since netting the team's first goal in a 2-0 victory at Dickinson.
Meanwhile, Sarioglou picked up his team-leading second assist of the season on the play and is second on the team with six points, one behind sophomore Marcus Green (Rosedale/Overlea).
Stover's goal was just the second in the last five home games for the Mustangs who have been outscored 8-2 and are 1-3-1 during that time.
However, the tie puts Stevenson in a tie for fourth place in the CAC standings with Frostburg State and York (Pa.) who are both currently 1-1-2 in conference contests this season. The Mustangs host York (Pa.) this Wednesday before traveling to Frostburg State on Wednesday, October 19.
The top four teams are guaranteed a home game in the CAC Men's Soccer Championship later this month, an achievement the Mustangs have attained each of the last two seasons.
Senior Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) made four saves to record his sixth victory of the season, including fifth by shutout.
Will Kane finished with five saves for the Blazers (3-5-1, 0-2-1 CAC) who are winless in their last five and are 2-8-1 in their last 11 CAC contests.
Stevenson hosts a "black out" against York (Pa.) on Wednesday and all fans are asked to wear black. There will be free t-shirts and other giveaways as well as a special presentation for the Wounded Warrior Project. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
