Mustangs Close Out Regular Season With 1-1 Tie Against Bridgewater (Va.)

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's soccer Amanda Marston (Baltimore/Institute of Notre Dame) scored her sixth goal of the season with just five minutes remaining in the second half to help the Mustangs remain unbeaten in their last five as they battled Bridgewater (Va.) to a 1-1 tie Tuesday at Mustang Stadium on Senior Day.

The Mustangs (12-4-3), who entered the game ranked at No. 8 in the NSCAA South Atlantic Region, are now 6-2-2 at home this season where they will host the semifinals of the CAC Women's Soccer Championship next Wednesday, November 2.

Stevenson is now 0-0-3 in overtime games this season.

Bridgewater (Va.), who is ranked at No. 10 in the NSCAA South Atlantic Region, is now 1-0-2 in the last three meetings against the Mustangs, with both ties coming at home in 2009 and 2010. The two teams battled to a scoreless tie at Stevenson on Sept. 1, 2009.

Melanie Waters scored her team leading 12th goal of the season off an assist from Sarah Conner to give the Eagles (13-4-1) a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.

Despite outshooting Bridgewater 21-9 in the game, including 18-6 in regulation, the Mustangs would not get the equalizer until Marston found the back of the net in the 86th minute.

Up to that point, Mackenzie Gates had turned away all 17 shots she faced while totaling six saves.

Both teams had a chance to win the game in the first overtime with the Eagles nearly missing first when Waters' header in the 96th minute was saved by the team.

Then, in the 100th minute, with about 15 seconds remaining in the first overtime, Stevenson had a flurry of activity in front of the Eagle goal.

Beginning with a shot by senior Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont/Catoctin), the Mustangs had a shot from junior Kayla Curry (Timonium/John Carroll) hit the cross bar from two yards before freshman Brandy Foehrkolb (Baltimore/Catholic) hit the left post from the goal line.

Eyler had another opportunity from the right wing in the 108th minute, but her shot from eight yards out was saved by Gates to keep the game tied.

Stevenson held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks, including a 10-0 margin over the final three periods, six of which came in the second half.
